Video Site Faq. Updated 6/9/2006 - Note: This is incomplete.
General:

The Video Site at YoYoing.com is set up for the free download and streaming of yo-yo and skill toy videos. At this time the site works, but is still under development, expect features to be added and refined as time goes on.

This site was started for several reasons. We were running a list called Fresh Videos that listed links to new yo-yo videos. Unfortunately, the links to many videos broke after just a few days (about 50% of them) rendering this list as a search engine unusable. The video site was set up to fix this issue by hosting videos and making them as accessible as possible.

The best part is anyone with a yoyoing.com account for posting to the forum can also post videos to this site.

The strength of this site is several fold.

  1. You can stream the videos, either to watch them, or to pre-view them before you spend time downloading them.
  2. You can see how popular the video is (how many times it's been viewed) or how well rated the video is (it is rated by other users voting on the video on a scale from 1 to 5 where 5 is the best).
  3. You can search the video archive to find videos of a certain type, or of certain players, or from certain countries.
  4. Unlike many other video hosting services, besides streaming the video, you can download the video in it's original format, or pre-formatted for the iPod Video.
Uploading:

Once you are logged into your YoYoing.com account you can upload or migrate your video in three ways.

  1. From your computer
  2. From another site if you have the URL of that video
  3. From YouTube or Google Videos.
Logging on:

No matter what upload method you want to use, you need to log on first. The best way to do this is from http://www.yoyoing.com/forum. If you do not have an account there yet, sign up for one, its free and quick. Once you are logged on go back to the video site, there is a link to it to the right of the forum.
Uploading from your computer:

(Uploading works best with Firefox or IE 6 and above. It does work with other browsers, but the status bar telling you how long you have to wait to complete your upload may not work.)

  1. Click on the button on the top of http://www.yoyoing.com/videos marked Upload from Computer.
  2. Enter the name of your video as it will be seen and searched on the Video Site.
  3. Click on choose file and choose the video file you want to upload (We support .wmv, .avi, .flv, .mp4 and most .mov files.)
  4. Select any performers and videographers from the pull down lists. You will have to pull the menu down to choose the name, and then hit the arrow to the right of it to move it into the right column that will be what the computer uses. If the name you want is not on the list, enter it in the space provided, and click the right arrow to move it to the right column. That name will be on the master list next time.
  5. Close the style of the video, you can choose multiple styles.
  6. Choose the region the video is related to. You can choose only one region.
  7. Choose the type of video this is. You can choose only one.
  8. Enter the description of your video, and hit upload.

Remember the name field and the description field will be searchable.

When you hit upload the computer will start to upload the video and will open a new window with a status monitor. For the video to upload, both windows MUST STAY OPEN. If you close either of them, the video may not complete it's uploading.

Migrating from a URL:

This is a great way to put a video on The Video Site without having to upload a video from your computer. This is especially useful if you have a slow connection.

So you have your video on another site, and you want to mirror it on the yoyoing.com server. After you log on, go to the main menu at http://www.yoyoing.com/videos and click on Migrate a video from another website.

  1. Enter the URL on the Enter URL line of the video you want to migrate. Do not forget to include the "http://"
  2. Enter the information for the form as described in upload a video from your comptuer
  3. Click on Upload Files.

This will take a while. Depending on the connection speed from our server to the other server this can take a few seconds or a few minutes. Do not close the window until the computer refreshes the window, or the video may not upload.

Migrating from YouTube or Google Videos:

With this option you can pull a FLV file from YouTube or Google Videos to The Video Site. It is a little tricky.

What you need is the URL to the .flv file on either of these servers. This can be a little confusing, so forgive me if these directions are not perfect.

Before you start you need to be logged on to yoyoing.com. Then go to http://www.yoyoing.com/videos and click on "migrate a video from YouTube". Even though this says youtube it also works with Google Videos.

In the Enter URL slot you need to enter the URL of the .flv file for the video. The first thing we need to do is to get this URL. It is hidden. Copy the URL of the web page for the video you want off either YouTube or Google Videos, then go to http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php . This page will let you enter the URL of the page the video is on, and will give you the URL of the .flv file.

On the Video Downloader site enter the URL in the space provided. Leave the pull down menu on "Any Site" click submit.

Below the form line a button will appear labeled "Download Link". Right click this link (or option click it on a mac) and copy the url that is connected to this button.

Past this new URL into the Enter URL field on yoyoing.com.

Enter the other information as if you were uploading a video from your computer.

Hit submit.

This will take a while. Depending on the connection speed from our server to the other server this can take a few seconds or a few minutes. Do not close the window until the computer refreshes the window, or the video may not upload.
