Hyper Faktorgade
by Sage

You will need:

  • 1 Spinfaktor
  • 1 Renegade (with the halves separated)
  • Dupont krazy glue gel
  • A 1 3/4" circular drill bit (those things used to drill holes for door knobs)
  • A hand drill capable of spinning in reverse.
  • A hammer
  • A screwdriver..(preferably one of those screw drivers that come with interchangable heads. These usually have sharper tips)
  • A screw, nut & 2 washers that fit in the axle hole on the Gade
  • Sandpaper
  • A metal dremel sanding bit (see pic #1)
  • Sand paper

Step 1: Place a towel or cloth on a hard surface. Use screw driver and a hammer to separate the halves (for demonstration there is no towel shown).

Note: because of the screw driver you will end up with a notch on the inside of the ring...dont worry about this...it does not affect the play of the yoyo. Just sand down the rough spots on the notch.

Step 2: Drill out the outer cap using the circular bit into the outer half of the Gade. Use reverse on the drill till you get about halfway through...then you can use forward to finish. Then use sandpaper to smoothen out the edges (i hold the Gade half exactly as shown, but i use a towel to hold it).

Step 3: On the Spinfaktor ring you will notice that there is a lip on the inside part of the ring...this prevents the ring from being flush with the Gade inside half... what you need to do is sand down the inner half of the Gade so that the lip in the ring goes all the way in the half (so that the ring is flush with the Gade half).

This is how you do this:

Find a screw, nut & 2 washers that fit through the hole in the inner half of the Gade assemble the screw nut & washers as shown in the pictures.

Put the screw on your hand drill....use the metal dremel bit to sand the inner lip of the Gade larger..basically what you will have is a Gade half attached to your hand drill and a dremel bit in your hand.... (see pic below)

Turn the drill on and use the dremel bit to sand the lip larger. Do a little at a time. Then test and see if the ring goes in flush with the yoyo half. If it doesn't go in, keep sanding till it fits tightly (this is the hardest part of the whole project).

Also there is another lip on top of the Gade half...use sandpaper to sand this lip down (actually you should sand this lip down first before you start to sand the inner section larger). There are also 4 tabs that need to be cut off (I use an exacto knife).

Step 4: Glue the ring to the Gade inner half.

  • Using an exacto blade, make scratch marks where the ring and the Gade half will contact each other...make scratch marks on both Gade & the rings (this makes the glue bond better).
  • apply dots of super glue (do not cover the entire surface) around the rim of Gade where the rings will make contact with the Gade. Put the ring on the Gade. Squeeze together tightly for a few seconds.
* When I made mine, the rings fit into the Gade pretty tight. So when I put the glue on, I put the half on the table and hit it with my palm, to make sure that the ring went all the way in. Then I pressed tightly for about 10 seconds.

Step 5: Sand down the outer Gade half (this will let the outer Gade section be flush with the SF ring).

Step 6: Assemble parts.

That's it....you're done. If you would like to see more pictures of the completed Faktorgade, please go to - www.sageizm.homepage.com - this is where i will be posting pics of all my mods.

Things that i have noticed:

  • You can probably get away without doing step 3. But you will end upwith a groove on the yoyo. Similar to the groove on the Gade (unmodded) but slightly wider. On my first Hyper Faktorgade I didn't do step 3... I played with it for about 2 days... found out that it catches too much on the groove...so I highly recommend that you do step 3.
  • Because of all the sanding involved, a clear inner half Gade will show the sand marks.
  • I dont know about other people...but for me...the starbursts on a Gade wear down pretty fast. I put a thin layer of krazy glue on the starburst. I used to use clear fingernail polish, but it wears out pretty fast. The krazy glue lasts much longer. I recommend that you do this. It would be a shame to spend so much time making a Faktorgade just to have the starburst wear down.
  • The rubber o-rings on a Spinfaktor make black marks on your string & clothes. Use clear fingernail polish on the rings to solve this problem. Plus it makes them shine.
  • Don't blame me if you screw up. You are taking a chance screwing up 2 yoyo's. But if you do it right...you will end up with a yoyo that is better than the old SF and Gade, combined! (in my opinion)
  • I assume no resposibility for any bodily harm that might occur during the process of making a Faktorgade. Make one at your own risk.
