Repost of Alan Amaral's statement below (it'll become 2nd page fodder soon)
Dear Steve and Greg:
Thanks for helping us accomplish bringing the whole “Worlds” concept into the light of day! Although you, along with the handful of the Steve Brown-noser disciples and other Greg cheerleaders, really attach too much importance to yourselves, we couldn’t have done it without your help!
Perhaps you were trying to extend your already-depleted 15 minutes of fame in suggesting that you speak for the “yo-yo community”. It is very difficult to imagine Steve Brown and a few other odious clowns expressing righteous indignation at Yomega’s decision to decline a sponsorship in the alleged “Worlds” and to host a hospitality room where we also chose to sell yo-yos. Perhaps you also saw the handwriting on the wall and are finally coming to understand that there are more questions than answers with regard to what is really happening at this event.
While I would ordinarily dismiss your comments and those of a few of your followers as mere orchestrated envious diatribe (look it up), it does give me the opportunity to continue debate and to issue a challenge to reveal information to “the yo-yo community” you think you represent about the so-called “Worlds”.
Let’s see if you have the courage to accept the challenge and to fully disclose the information. My guess is that you will run like retreating cowards rather than doing so, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.
First: Yomega has come to believe that the “Worlds, unlike the Nationals, was something other than an event intended to support yo-yo play to the degree it alleges. The finances have never been disclosed and the levels of sponsorship have been seemingly disjointed and unequal. This causes us to call into question whether ulterior motive was afoot and whether the event was nothing more than a money-making enterprise in which those of us invited to be “sponsors”, and players, parents, and other attendees were really unwitting supporters of a scheme.
We think that this is question is warranted by Greg’s outrageous temper tantrum in the Yomega hospitality room and elsewhere as he kept yelling “I’m losing money” and shouted threats to Yomega and its players. These threats are viewed as a form of an unfair and deceptive act or practice, trespass, and extortion. When told to have his Lawyer contact me, Greg ultimately acknowledged that he was wrong, but continued to try to impose conditions on the Yomega team competing. Brilliant, Greg – just brilliant! The kids that you are supposedly trying to assist and encourage and who must pay to attend your event are threatened and intimidated! Real class!!
Nevertheless, Greg’s “outrage” and slip of the tongue about loosing money causes us to further question whether there are motives other than those which all the players are urged to believe are as pure as the driven snow!
Second: While the event is attended by a significant number of players and attendees, all pay to compete or to attend. It does little to introduce yo-yo play to the vast number of people who have yet to discover the yo-yo and thus the “Worlds” effectiveness as an educational mechanism for the sport is highly suspect. Simply stated: Is the “Worlds” a truly “World” event, or a mere profit enterprise and club during which only a small number of enthusiasts benefit? Perhaps, Steve, you best answer that question when you refer it as the “Yo-Yo community”!
Third: If the “Worlds” is truly a World Competition as alleged, why is it not held in other countries? Are we to believe that it is held in Orlando because that’s the only place it can be held? Or is it held only in Orlando because that is where it is most likely to yield the biggest monetary return?
Fourth: Why is the “Worlds” not governed by a truly representative body?– a Board of Directors comprised of all legitimate Sponsor segments of the yo-yo community with each Sponsor having a voice commensurate with the contribution – not the Steve Browns, the Steve Brown-nosers, Greg’s cheerleading squad, and the other “wanna-bees”.
Fifth: Yomega was, and is, entirely within its rights to host a hospitality room, sell yo-yos, and to continue to issue this challenge. Greg Cohen may think he “owns” the alleged “Worlds”, but neither he, nor anyone else, will be permitted to dictate to Yomega with regard to what it can and cannot do. Period. I assume that you, Steve along with Greg, and the other dupes who buy into your baloney would agree that Yomega’s right to free speech, liberty, and association extends at least as far as yours!
Perhaps you may hope that your comments and transparent attempts to coerce and extort Yomega and others into sponsorships without concomitant (look it up!) accountability will work. Let me assure you that they will not – at least not with Yomega.
So, Steve, Greg, and the rest of the knuckle-dragging neanderthals who are helping me keep this alive, here is the “YOMEGA CHALLENGE TO THE WORLDS”:
1. Issue a Certified Financial Statement in accordance with reasonably accepted accounting principles revealing and detailing all sources of income and expenses for the 2007 “Worlds” including, but not limited to who contributed as sponsors and in what amounts; what was spent and the identity of each entity or person receiving payment and their affiliation, direct or indirect, to Greg Cohen or any of his enterprises.
2. Disclose the last three years Tax Returns (2004, 2005, and 2006) and supporting schedules as filed with the IRS detailing the income and expenses of the “Worlds” and the income tax return and supporting schedules when filed for 2007 within thirty days of its being filed.
So, that’s it, Steve and Greg. It’s a very simple matter and should cause you no difficulty whatsoever! While you thought your on-line polemic (look it up!) and the comments of the other cheerleaders would operate to do otherwise, it helps us bring to the attention of the parents and kids the hard questions you must now answer or let the questions continue. Keep it up, Steve and Greg - because we surely will! We will be around for a long time and we’ll keep pressing! We will continue to ask these questions and more! You can’t escape now!
We will wait for your response – until hell freezes over if necessary – even if your 15 minutes of fame are over.
